About Us

Welcome To Our Tiny Home!

After years & years of living in apartments, we decided to put our money to good use & purchase a tiny house. We have gone from living in a 700+ square foot apartment to just about a 400 square foot tiny home! This blog will follow our journey about going small and making the space our own. Who are we?
Both of us were born & raised in Oregon! We’ve been together since 2008, you could say we were high school sweethearts, even though we went to different high schools, we did meet in high school. We dated for three year & officially became a “we” in 2011.
A year before our marriage we moved from a small town into the city life. We lived there for six years. Nick works in warehousing & Megan (the blog writer) works in retail.
We are the parents of two “fur babies”. Calli is our first baby, our cat, her favorite pass time is window watching, sun bathing & cuddling with her “papa”.
Quigley is our second baby, our dog. His favorite pass time is chasing his chuck-it ball, wrestling with his “papa” & cuddling at night with his “mama”.

If you have an Instagram, follow Calli & Quigley on their own Instagram: coon_aussie (yes, they have their own & it's pretty cute) and you can follow their own adventures.

How did we get into the Tiny Home life?
If you have followed any articles about the raise of rent on the rise, Oregon was no different, especially in the greater Portland area, which exactly where we were located. It became ridiculous to us to live in an area that was so incredibly high price & all we were doing was spending our hard earned money on rent & pretty much rent alone. We hated to leave the Portland area, there was so much about it that we loved. But we decided that moving back to our roots was the ideal situation.
We moved back home while we decided what we wanted to do. We thought about getting a house but Oregon prices are crazy high. Then the Tiny Home idea got thrown out there. We had both watched & are fans of the HGTV channel’s “Tiny House Hunter’s” as well as “Tiny Luxury” & the FYI Channel’s “Tiny House Nation”. We never thought living it was an idea. Thanks to the internet, looking into the cost of tiny homes & putting it on a piece of property was much more affordable to us then buying a house.

You’re going to live in something THAT small?
Never fear! To test out the water’s Nick & I moved into my parents trailer & lived in that. The trailer itself is about 27 feet long & 7.5 feet wide. That is about 202 square feet. But then you have to minus the bunk bed area that we didn’t use & that gave us even less space. Our Tiny House is 28 feet long by 9.5 feet wide. That gives us 263 square feet, now add on the two lofts on either end & that gives us about 140 square feet which equals out about 400 square feet. We lived in the little trailer for over 6 months while we have been waiting for our trailer. We think we can live the “tiny life” just fine.

What is your Tiny Home like?
Our tiny home is sort of like a shipping container home. Ever see one of those? We liked the shape of the house but not necessarily the coldness of a container. The builder we went through built a shipping container style of tiny home. Now the 26 foot long model home we looked at had a porch, double French doors & a “back door” leading to the porch. The first time I looked at this house, I loved it!
But there was a few things that just didn’t work for me. When you live in a Tiny Home, you want to save space. So the porch just didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. I loved the idea but I thought if I enclosed the porch? So much more space! I also went from French doors to one door because I wanted more wall space. What is great is that we got to build our home how we wanted.

Then there comes our home. We added on 2 more feet making it a total of 28 feet long. We enclosed the porch which made it more a box shape, but I used that enclose porch to make a bigger kitchen because I cook a lot!
We added 2 more feet on the end because we wanted it just a little big longer and in a Tiny Home, 2 feet goes a long way!

As you can see we went with just one door. We felt like this would give us more wall space for a TV or maybe a table that folds up and down against the wall. We also have two lofts of either side. We lowered one loft, so Nick, the over 6 foot man, can fit in the loft & actually be comfortable. The other loft will be a storage loft.
